Tracking your cases and alerts, the complete guide
Add a case three ways, follow it in My Cases and My Day, choose your alerts, and use notifications, calendar and sharing on web and mobile.

This guide covers everything you can do to follow your own matters in LawyerInsight, on the website and in the mobile app. It is written for advocates, clerks and law students. For a shorter introduction, read track a case with LawyerInsight and alerts for your tracked cases first.
LawyerInsight is a research aid built on the Court's public records. It is not the official record and it is not legal advice. Alerts follow the official upload, they do not come before it, so confirm anything important on the Supreme Court website.
Add a case
Use Add a Case in the web sidebar, or the plus button on the Cases screen in the mobile app. You need an account.
The three ways to name a case
The web page has three buttons: Case Type, Diary Number and CNR. The mobile app has three segments: Diary no., Case no. and CNR.
| Mode | What you enter |
|---|---|
| Case Type (web), Case no. (mobile) | Case type, case number and case year |
| Diary Number (web), Diary no. (mobile) | Diary number and diary year |
| CNR | The CNR, which the web form describes as the 16-character Case Number Record issued by the Supreme Court |
If you are unsure which number you hold, read diary number vs case number. The mobile app checks your entries first: digits only for numbers, a year from 1950 to the current year, and letters and digits only for a CNR. Adding a case needs a connection.
What happens next
LawyerInsight checks its own database first.
- Already in the database. The case is linked to your account at once. The web shows "Case added" with a View it link. Mobile opens the case.
- Not in the database yet. LawyerInsight fetches it live from the Supreme Court (next section).
- Cannot be found. Mobile says "We couldn't find that case. Check the details." Check the numbers and try again.
When a case isn't in the database yet
The page says "Fetching this case from the Supreme Court" and shows the seconds elapsed and the current step. The web checks every three seconds. On success you see "Case fetched" with View it (web) or Open case (mobile). On failure you see the error message, or "The fetch failed." on the web, and mobile offers Try again.
On mobile, if the fetch is still running after about five minutes the screen says "Still fetching. It will appear in your cases list when ready." You can leave. The case stays in your list and updates by itself.
Bulk add and the case page
On My Cases, Bulk add lets you paste up to 100 numbers at a time, one per line (commas and semicolons also work), in forms like "1234/2024", "D. No. 5678 of 2023" or "SLP(C) 9012/2022". The dialog counts valid entries and shows why any need fixing. Afterwards it summarises how many were Added, Being fetched, Already tracked or could not be added.
On a case page, the web Track this case button adds the case. It then reads Tracking, and pressing it asks "Stop tracking this case?". Mobile has Stop tracking this case on the case screen.
My Cases
My Cases (web) and Cases (mobile) list everything you track.
The web table has the columns Case, Next date, Last order, Open defects, Last refreshed, Status and Actions. Status reads Tracking, "Fetching from the Supreme Court…" or "Could not be fetched". Search by title, diary number, label or client, and filter by All, Listed in next 7 days, Open defects, Being fetched or failed, or Muted.
Each row's menu has Edit label, Mute alerts (or Unmute alerts) and Stop tracking. The label (up to 120 characters) and client name (up to 200) are private: only you can see them. On a case page, Refresh now asks for fresh data, and the page says new data usually appears within a few minutes.
Mobile cards show the diary number, label, a Muted badge, title, client, next date (or "Next date not set"), last order, open defects and when it was refreshed. Pull down to refresh. The list is kept on the phone, so offline you see the saved copy with a banner.
My Day
My Day answers one question: which of my tracked cases are listed today or tomorrow, and where? On the web the page is titled "My day in court". On mobile it is My Day in the menu, called Today in the app code.
Switch between Today and Tomorrow. You see a summary of matters, courts and clashes, then one block per courtroom with the bench and your matters in item order. Each matter shows its item number, an estimated call time, title, case number, and your label and client name. Muted matters are tagged Muted.
- Estimated call times are estimates, not confirmed times. Without one the page says "Est. time unavailable".
- Clash warnings appear when two matters are listed too close together to attend both, for example "Clash with Court 5, Item 12".
- Live progress shows for today only, such as "Now at item 9" and how many items come before yours. A passed item is tagged "Passed / may be called later". Live positions come from the Court's display board and may be delayed. Mobile says "Live data delayed" when a reading is over five minutes old.
Today's list refreshes every minute while the web tab is visible or the mobile app is open. The web page has a Print button. If nothing is listed, the page says so and links to My Cases and the Daily Cause List. More in the cause list and live courts.
Track all my cases as an Advocate-on-Record
If you are an Advocate-on-Record (AOR), the Track all my cases as AOR link on My Cases opens a four-step flow.
- Find your profile by name or AOR code. Only AOR profiles appear.
- Confirm it's you with your AOR / CC code, then Claim this profile.
- Verification. The page says this usually takes up to 1 working day and that you will be notified. A rejected claim shows the reason.
- Track your cases. It counts pending cases where you are recorded as Advocate-on-Record and not yet tracked. Tick Also include disposed cases if you want them. Continue adds the next batch if more remain.
Mobile offers Link your advocate profile and Track all my cases under Account. This is a factual link between your name on the record and your cases, not a ranking.
Alert settings
Open Alert settings from the web account menu (/settings/alerts), or in the Notifications section of mobile Account. On the web press Save changes, or Reset to discard. Mobile saves each change as you make it.
Events and channels
The web grid has one row per event and one column per channel. The events are: Case listed (cause list); Your item is near; Your item is called; New order or judgment; Defect cure deadline (estimated); Defect notified; Defect cured; Listing date changed; Stage or status changed; Notice issued; New IA filed; and New hearing recorded.
The channels are In-app, Email, WhatsApp and Push (mobile app). WhatsApp stays off until you add a phone number ("Add a phone number to use WhatsApp"). Mobile groups the same events under Listing, Live court, Orders and filings, Defects and Case status, and hides WhatsApp if the server has turned it off.
Timing
- Items before call: notify me this many items before my case is called. Choose 1 to 20. The default is 5.
- Quiet hours: a start and end time, or both empty. No alerts are sent in that window (India time). Setting only one is an error.
- Daily digest: an email sent around 7 pm IST.
To silence one case, use Mute alerts in its My Cases menu.
Notifications
Inbox. On the web, the bell in the header opens Notifications, with filters for type and case, Mark all as read and Load more. On mobile, Alerts is the same inbox, with the filters All, Unread, Listing, Orders, Defects and Live. Tapping an alert opens the case.
Push on mobile. The app offers push only after you track a case, never on first launch. The prompt is titled "Get listing, order and defect alerts". After Not now it waits seven days. Account shows the Push notifications row as On, Off or Blocked, with Turn on or Open settings. Alerts while the app is closed come from the server, and tapping one opens the case.
Permissions. The mobile Permissions screen lists Notifications, Camera, Microphone and Calendar with why each is used. Each shows Allowed, Not allowed yet or Blocked in settings, with Allow or Open settings. It also shows your plan and usage.
Calendar sync on mobile
Under Account, the Calendar section lets you add listings to your phone calendar.
- On My Day, the calendar icon on a matter is Add to calendar.
- Add my listings to calendar automatically puts listed matters into a separate "LawyerInsight listings" calendar, with the court, item, case title and estimated time only. Your client name and private label are not written.
- Remove LawyerInsight events from calendar deletes that calendar and every event the app added. Your other calendars are not touched.
Event notes say the call time is an estimate and the matter may be called earlier or later. If a matter has no estimate, the event covers the court day. If calendar access is off, the screen shows an Open settings row.
Share a case with your client
On the web, a tracked case has a Share with client button on its case page. It is hidden until you track the case.
- Choose how long the link lasts: 7, 30 or 90 days.
- Press Create link.
- Copy the link, or send it with the WhatsApp button.
Anyone with the link can see the case's status, next date and last order, and nothing else. The shared page also says it comes from public Supreme Court records, is not legal advice, and that the client should contact the advocate for details. The link is shown only once, so copy it straight away. Each active link lists when it was created, when it expires and how many times it was opened. Revoke stops it working.
Common questions
It says my case is being fetched. Is something wrong? No. Cases not yet in the database are fetched from the Supreme Court and appear in your list when ready.
Why is Next date empty? The Court has not published a date for that case.
Why did an alert come after the official upload? Alerts follow the Court's public records.
Are call times exact? No. Matters can be called earlier or later.
Who sees my label and client name? Only you. Calendar sync leaves them out.
How is my data used? See the privacy policy and our methodology.
