The LawyerInsight Android app: a complete guide

How the Android app works, screen by screen, including the assistant, alerts, permissions, your account and how it differs from the website.

This guide describes the LawyerInsight app for Android, screen by screen.

Status: closed testing. The app (store name "LawyerInsight: AI Assistant", package com.bipvanta.lawyerinsight) is in closed testing on Google Play. It is not yet public, and only people who have joined the tester group can install it. See the Android page for how to join. This guide may mention things that testers see before everyone does, and what you see can differ slightly between builds. Android only for now.

LawyerInsight is a research aid, not legal advice. Every statistic and answer shows its source or method.

Getting started

Install

On the Android page, join the tester group using the Google account you use on your phone (if it says "Ask to join", tap that and wait for approval), then open the test link, tap Become a tester and install from Google Play.

Create an account or log in

  1. Open the app. The Log in screen says "Track your court cases, listings and orders."
  2. New here? Tap New here? Create an account. Enter your email and a password of at least 8 characters, then tap Sign up. Signing up means you agree to the Terms and Privacy Policy, both linked on the screen.
  3. A verification email is sent on sign-up. Verification does not block you from using the app.
  4. Already have an account? Enter email and password and tap Log in. The same account and plan work on the website.

Forgot your password

Tap Forgot password?, enter your email and tap Send reset link. The app always says "If an account exists for this email, we have sent a reset link", whether or not the address is registered. Reset links expire; if yours has, the app offers Request a new link. After you set a new password, log in with it.

Finding your way around

The app has no bottom tab bar. It has a side menu, and the assistant is the home screen.

Open the menu

Tap the menu button at the top left, or swipe right from the left part of the screen. The menu lists:

  • Assistant, Cases, My Day, Search, Alerts (with an unread count when there is one)
  • New chat, Search chats and Recent chats, grouped as Today, Yesterday, Previous 7 days and Older
  • at the bottom, your email; tap it for Settings (your Account screen), Permissions and Log out

To delete a chat, press and hold it in the list and confirm. Deleting removes it from your history and cannot be undone. Swipe left or tap the close button to shut the menu.

The assistant

The home screen asks "How can I help?" You can ask about your cases, cause lists, orders and defects. Every answer cites its sources.

Asking

Type in the box and tap send. The question can be up to 4,000 characters. Chips such as My cases tomorrow, Last order in ... and Any open defects in my cases? give you a start. While it works, the app shows what it is doing, for example checking listings.

Under an answer you can Copy answer, Share answer, Read aloud, give Good answer or Not helpful, or Ask again. Asking again counts as a new question for the day.

Attaching things

Tap the + button in the chat bar. You can choose:

  • Camera, Photos or Document to attach a file
  • Attach a case, to ask about one of your tracked cases (only before the first message of a chat)

Limits in the app: up to 3 files per question; photos up to 5 MB; documents up to 10 MB; photo, PDF, Word, text or CSV files. If you send a file with no words, the app asks "What does this say? Summarise it and point out anything I need to act on." An attached file counts as one question like any other. Uploaded files are kept for 24 hours and are deleted when you delete the chat or the account.

Please do not attach confidential client material while the app is in testing.

Talking to the assistant

When your phone supports it, a Talk button appears beside the box. It starts a voice chat: you speak, the answer is read back to you. Your phone turns your speech into text on the device. A live voice call may be offered where the server has it switched on and your plan includes it. If it is not available, the app says so and falls back to the basic voice chat, or you can type. Live voice has daily and per-call time limits. Spoken chats appear in your history as messages.

If microphone access is off, the app says so and tells you to turn it on in settings, or type.

Your history

Chats are saved. Open one from Recent chats. Start a new one with New chat.

Cases

Cases lists the matters you track. Tap + (or Add case) to add one by Diary no., Case no. (case type, number, year) or CNR. If we already hold it, it opens at once; otherwise the app shows the fetch from the court in progress and adds it to your list when ready.

Each card shows the case, next date and last order. The list is saved on your phone, so you can read it offline; a banner shows when it was last refreshed.

Open a case for five tabs:

TabWhat it holds
SummaryDetails, next listing, recent activity
HearingsHearings recorded
OrdersOpen PDF and Share link; the PDFs are the Court's own
DefectsOpen defects, with estimated cure deadlines labelled as estimates and a typical cure time from past matters
PartiesPetitioners, respondents, other parties and advocates, with AOR and Senior Advocate marked

You can Stop tracking this case at any time.

My Day

My Day shows your tracked matters listed Today or Tomorrow, grouped by courtroom, with estimated call times and any clashes where two of your matters may be in different courts at once. Times are estimates. Where the live tracker is switched on, today's view shows the position from the Court's display board, which may be delayed. The Cause list button opens the web cause list.

Search looks up Cases, Advocates, Judges and Parties. Type at least 2 characters (name, party or case number). Your recent searches are kept to tap again. Results are lists of facts: advocate and judge pages show historical tallies with their source, never rankings. Profile pages offer Open full profile on web.

Alerts

Alerts is your inbox for listings, orders and defects on tracked cases. Filter by All, Unread, Listing, Orders, Defects or Live, and tap Mark all read.

Open Account > Alert settings to choose, for each kind of event, which channels you want: In-app, Push, Email and, where it appears, WhatsApp (which needs a verified phone). You can also set how many items before your case you are notified, Quiet hours (24-hour, India time) and a Daily email digest.

Push notifications

The app asks about notifications only after you track your first case, with a short explanation. Tap Turn on or Not now; after Not now it waits 7 days before asking again. Account > Push notifications shows On, Off or Blocked, with a button to fix it. See alerts for your tracked cases.

The Permissions screen

Open it from the menu (your email, then Permissions). It lists what the app may use on your phone and why, with its state: Allowed, Not allowed yet, Blocked in settings or Not available on this phone.

PermissionWhy
NotificationsAlerts when a case is listed, an order is uploaded or a defect appears
CameraTo photograph a document and ask the assistant about it
MicrophoneTo speak your question to the assistant
CalendarTo add court listings to your calendar, when you choose to

Nothing is required. You can say no to any of them and the rest of the app still works. Use Allow to be asked, or Open settings to change a blocked one in your phone's settings. The same screen shows your plan and today's usage.

Your account

Open Account from the menu. Top to bottom:

  • Signed in as and your plan: Free or Pro, AI questions used today, any extra questions, Live voice, and when it resets. Limits depend on your plan and may change.
  • Advocate profile: Link your advocate profile by searching your name as on the AOR list and entering your AOR / CC code. Claims are verified before they count.
  • Notifications: push status and Alert settings.
  • Calendar: Add my listings to calendar automatically puts listed matters in a separate "LawyerInsight listings" calendar with court, item, title and estimated time only. Remove LawyerInsight events from calendar deletes that calendar and its events; your other calendars are untouched.
  • Preferences > Language: System default, English or हिन्दी. Case records stay as filed.
  • Privacy: Download my data (up to 5 times an hour) and What you agreed to.
  • About: Privacy policy, Terms of use and the app version.
  • Log out, and Delete account.

Delete account

Under Danger zone, tap Delete account. It permanently removes your account, tracked cases, alerts, preferences, devices, share links and chat history. Public court records are not affected. You must type DELETE MY ACCOUNT and enter your password. This cannot be undone.

Updates

  • From Google Play: the Play Store updates the app as usual. If a version is too old, the app shows Update required. A softer banner says "Version X is available" with Not now.
  • Over the air: small fixes (text, screens, bug fixes) can arrive without a store update. The app checks when it starts, downloads quietly and applies the update the next time you fully close and reopen it. It never reloads in the middle of what you are doing.
  • Maintenance: if the service is paused, the app shows "Down for maintenance" with Retry.

What differs from the website

The app is built for following your matters on the move. These are on the website but not in the app: the insights pages (Outcome Analytics, Benchmarks, High Court Outcomes, Registry Defects; see the insights guide), the Sitting Roster, the Daily Cause List and Live Courts pages (My Day links to the cause list), assistant memory settings and AI connector keys. The app adds the camera, a home-screen widget showing your next listing, push alerts and calendar sync. The plan and account are shared.

Common questions

Can I install it from the public Play Store? Not yet. It is in closed testing; see /android.

Is there an iPhone app? No. Android only for now.

Does it work offline? Cases and My Day show the last saved copy with a banner. Search, adding a case and the assistant need a connection.

Why did the assistant refuse a question? You may have used the day's allowance for your plan; it resets daily. See your usage on Account.

Can I use the app without any permissions? Yes.

Where is my bottom tab bar? There is none; use the menu.

I found a problem. Email support@lawyerinsight.in with what you did and what happened, or use "Send feedback" on the Play Store page.
